about

“Come Running For My Love” was the first thing John and I sat down together to work on after finishing our first record. "Come Running” and “Everyone I Know” were originally demos we wrote while we were working on the self-titled. We intended to release them as bonus tracks after the album was finished, but that didn’t happen- everything we set out to do always tends to take longer than we plan. We recorded “Come Running For My Love” three times before we got it right. I think by that third one we had become so frustrated we decided it would have to work—or else we’d just scrap the tune entirely. We have Pablo to thank for that last chance, he asked if he could record us for a school project so we used the opportunity to give the song one last shot in a more traditional recording environment. The result was the recording of the drums and bass that became the basis of the final version. Thanks a-thousand for that Pablo.

“Everyone I Know” was funny because it began not long after starting the first version of “Come Running” and yet was completed long before. That’s not to say it was without its own turbulences. After tracking the drums we just sat with it for a while. There was a lot of back and forth between me, John, and Owen about whether or not the track was working. I think for a while Owen had us convinced he should do it again. Eventually, we all realized that we were overthinking it and what we had was good from the start. From there, John laid down the synth/key-bass and then everything just sort of fell into place.

It’s true that for a while, All For My Love frustrated us. But we think those frustrations made their way into the music in a really profound way, and helped to invoke some pretty nuanced emotions. None of us really knew what AFML was gonna sound like, but we’re all really proud of what it became.
